"Topic: Taoism
Teacher: Lee Sang-moon
Let's learn about 'Wu Xing', commonly known as the 'Five Elements'. People today think that the five elements are simple, and that the whole thing is an easily understood concept. So the importance of the real meaning is lost in the modern day.
The Five Elements show all the changes in the universe, their features are shown in this diagram:
Each element interacts with each other in two different ways. The generating interaction, meaning each element supports each other. And the overcoming interaction, meaning each element overcomes each other.
Generating interactions:
-Wood feeds Fire
-Fire creates Earth (ash)
-Earth bears Metal
-Metal carries Water (as in a metal container - buckets, taps)
-Water nourishes Wood
Overcoming interactions:
-Wood parts Earth (such as roots; or, Trees can prevent soil erosion)
-Earth dams (muddies or absorbs) Water
-Water extinguishes Fire
-Fire melts Metal -Metal chops Wood
Our studies on Taoism will continue next lesson.''"

Class Data (2)Edit

"Topic: Taoism
Teacher: Lee Sang-moon
We will be continuing our studies on Taosim and Wu Xing.
As we found last lesson, one of the five elements duties is to keep a balance amongst themselves; maintaining a peaceful bond between each other, and keeping the flow of Qi (Pronounced: 'Chi'; also known as Ch'i) consistent and balanced.
Qi is an active principle forming part of any living thing - commonly translated in western countries as 'Life Energy'. Qi is emenated by everything that has spirit, that's active, that's alive. Just like you and me.
Symbolic representations for the five elements are commonly made for Feng Shui (Pronounced: 'Feng Shway'; also known as Pungsu). Feng Shui is a system of laws considered to govern spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of Qi. Basically, it's the condition of any area or place in terms of the flow of Qi.
Feng Shui was traditionally kept in mind when arranging furniture in homes and especially when designing architecture and buildings.
It may be hard to understand the concept of this, and it might feel like a lot to take in all at once. But the truth is, these are very vague concepts.
We will continue Taoism in the next lesson.''"

Class Data (3):Edit

"Topic: The Five Elements
Teacher: Lee Sang-moon / The Vice-Principal
One of the basic beliefs of the five elements is the representation it holds of the cycle of life. The five elements can be be put in contrast to a human life from birth to death. In much more oriental studies, the cycle of life does not end with death. This is because the five elements don't have to represent a human's physical form. Just as long as it's a full circle.
Some people have tried reversing the Qi emenated from the cycle of life in attempt to resurrect a human from the dead. This is possible because passing to the afterlife is merely your Qi leaving your body and moving on to the next world. They make this practical by using the relationships between the elements, element supporting and overcoming each other. Remember last lesson? Anyway, reversing the Qi in the cycle of life is a stupid and dangerous concept and is nothing more than utter stupidity.
According to these theories, the flow of the cycle (relations in wood, earth, fire, water and metal) determines the flow of your life. Living a healthy lifestyle can make the cycle of your life much more enjoyable, smooth and long-lasting.''"
